All about SAP Business One, the market and SAP B1 recruitment

SAP is a world class software company with large scale ERP software products. Around the turn of the millennium, SAP realised that if they had an ERP product for the Small to Medium Sized business market (SME) they could sell more software. In 2002, they bought an incredibly well engineered product called TopManage from a company in Israel and renamed it SAP Business One.

 

In the UK, SAP Business One has been selling very successfully ever since then. The SAP B1 product is constantly being developed and with many new releases over the years, it has strong functionality and resilience. Interestingly, SAP has allowed resellers to do their own SAP Business One software development and then sell the add-ons. These extra modules cater for a client's specific needs or for a vertical market – from ecommerce to hotels to theme parks and from travel agents to pharmaceuticals. This has allowed the resellers to grow their businesses working in these niche markets, so they have been able to sell highly specialised software at good margins while offering the client excellent value.

 

SAP has also introduced SAP Hana, which as I understand it, is a new environment for the SAP B1 product to sit on, like an operating system and a database combined. Somehow SAP Hana produces much faster results and uses less capacity than similar products, plus it can sit in the Cloud. This allows companies to spend less on hardware and expensive technical skills. But it does mean the demand for people who have done SAP Hana projects has increased and for people who really understand how to make it “sing”, there are great job prospects.

 

As a product, SAP Business One is sold throughout the world, and it is especially strong in Europe, so there is a pool of highly skilled global SAP Business One Consultants. Salaries continue to improve for both Consultants and SAP Business One developers working on SDK (SAP Developers Kit).

 

This year we have seen the continued demand for SAP Business One skills across the UK. There is high demand for functional Implementation Consultants and Technical Consultants including those with SAP Hana expertise.
